New Wigan band Montello hope to follow in the footsteps of their idols The Lathums.

"The Lathums have experienced a rapid rise, booking headline gigs across the UK and Europe, including at Wigan's Robin Park Arena next month.
Now, another up-and-coming Wigan band, Montello, is on the path to replicating the success of their idols, just a few months after forming as a group.

Montello is a four-piece indie-rock band from Wigan, Greater Manchester. They formed in November 2023 and gained traction in the local indie music scene by performing at small gigs around the North West of England. Despite their short time as a band, they have built a small but devoted fan base.

The band consists of lead guitarist Liam Conway, bassist Jacob Ratcliffe, drummer Toby Devereux, and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Jacob Knowles.
The group came together while watching The Lathums play at Manchester Academy 3 and later met Knowles when they started their Music Performance course at Winstanley College.

The four quickly started writing their own original songs, such as ‘House On Fire’ and ‘The Winter of our Discotheque’.  Montello made their debut supporting indie band Caesar of Cymatics, a friend of Knowles, at Retro in Manchester.
The band received a great response from the crowd and is now gearing up for their first headline gig at Manchester Academy 3 on July 19.  The band will be supported by a new up and coming band from tameside  simply named Monday Problems.
