Frail Elton John tragic health update as singer battles devastating eyesight loss.
Sir Elton John traveled to the picturesque region of Sicily to perform at the wedding of his dear friend Dua Lipa and her new husband, Callum Turner, over the weekend (June 6). Reports indicate that the 79-year-old musician faced difficulties with his vision during the performance as his eye condition has been worsening. The couple had previously held an intimate ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London before heading to Italy to celebrate with family and friends for three days.
The couple sought to make their special day extraordinary, hosting a second wedding at the stunning Villa Balguarnera near Palermo. In a heartfelt moment, Dua and Callum requested Elton to sing his beloved classic "Your Song," which he performed beautifully despite his challenges.
Elton took a private jet to attend the ceremony, but sources revealed that he required assistance to navigate the stage due to vision issues. According to insiders who spoke with The Sun, “He played and sang wonderfully, but seemed frail and needed help.”
After the wedding celebrations, Elton and his husband, David Furnish, 63, were seen departing Palermo airport on a private flight back to Farnborough, only 18 miles from their Windsor home. The return flight reportedly cost around £50,000. Elton has been candid about the struggles stemming from his deteriorating eyesight, having lost vision in his right eye and experiencing ongoing issues with his left.
Despite these challenges, he remains hopeful about his future health. In a statement to Variety, he shared, "It's been devastating. Losing my right eye and not being able to see well with my left has made the last 15 months tough, preventing me from seeing, watching, or reading anything."
He added, "I've had an incredible life, and there is hope. I just have to be patient; I believe science will come through for me. It's like the struggle against AIDS—never lose hope and always strive for improvement."
David has also expressed optimism, noting last year that there have been "some improvements in his left eye" thanks to various treatments. Elton has expressed gratitude towards his supportive family and celebrity friends, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards, for helping to keep his spirits high.
