Sir Elton John and Brandi Carlile are celebrating their first collaborative Number 1 album, *Who Believes In Angels?*. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Elton, earning him his landmark 10th UK chart-topping album in a remarkable 57-year career, while Brandi savors her first-ever Number 1.
Sir Elton shared his heartfelt experience with the Official Charts Company, expressing, “Working with Brandi, my songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, and producer Andrew Watt on this album was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life.
It was initially challenging, but navigating that process led us to create something truly joyous and celebratory. We’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support we've received, and witnessing *Who Believes In Angels?* reach number one is a true joy.
We couldn’t be prouder of it.” The Rocket Man last topped the UK album charts in January with *Diamonds*, a greatest hits compilation. He joins a prestigious group of artists, including Ed Sheeran, David Bowie, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande, who have each achieved two number one albums within a six-month period over the last 35 years. Elton’s illustrious discography includes *Don’t Shoot Me I’m The Only Piano Player*, *Goodbye Yellow Brick Road*, *Caribou*, *Elton John’s Greatest Hits*, *Sleeping With The Past*, *The Very Best Of Elton John*, *Good Morning To The Night*, and *The Lockdown Sessions*. He now stands alongside Abba, Queen, and Coldplay, each with 10 chart-toppers.
The Beatles and Robbie Williams currently hold the record for most number ones, with 15 each. Brandi Carlile proudly celebrates her first UK number one, known for her powerful songs like “The Story” and “Damage Gets Done” featuring Hozier. She joyfully declared, “It’s a dream come true for me to create this album with my absolute hero and dear friend Elton John. I’m immensely grateful to all the fans in the UK for your support, and to Elton for believing in me and championing me in such a generous way.
Thank you to our wonderful collaborators—my inspiration Bernie Taupin and the brilliant Andrew Watt. I can’t wait to see you all this summer on tour.” Carlile’s UK tour begins in June, with exhilarating performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and Glastonbury, among other venues. Her recent appearances on the American comedy show *Saturday Night Live* and a special one-off performance with Sir Elton highlight her remarkable journey, as he prepares to retire from touring after his 2023 shows. In the album chart, Sabrina Carpenter’s *Short N’ Sweet* resonates at number two, followed by Black Country Road’s *Forever Howlong* at number three. Ariana Grande’s *Eternal Sunshine* and Ed Sheeran’s *Plus Minus Equals Divide Multiply* shine at numbers four and five, respectively.
In the singles chart, American singer Alex Warren’s *Ordinary* continues to inspire at the top, while Chappell Roan’s *Pink Pony Club* holds strong at number two. Ed Sheeran marks this week’s highest new entry with *Azizam*, debuting at number three; it’s a triumphant return to the top 10 for him after nearly two years since his chart-topping hit *Eyes Closed*. In fourth place is *Anxiety* by US rapper Doechii, followed by *Beautiful Things* by Benson Boone at number five.
Brilliant album.
